2008's Best New Restaurant - Dolce de Palma's secret weapon

RENE MICHELENA - Excecutive Chef

One of Boston’s Best known chefs, Rene Michelena took the city by storm with the opening of La Bettola in 1998. His cutting edge Italian –fusion fare won him rave reviews by both press and patrons alike as well as national recognition.

From La Bettola, Michelena opened the critically acclaimed Centro in Cambridge, MA and initiated an Italian-Asian menu at The Vault in Boston. He then took a sabbatical and traveled around the world- Europe, Central America and Southeast Asia- before returning to Boston to open Saint Nitery and Domani Bar & Trattoria- both in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood.
Born in the Phillippines, Michelena moved to the United States when he was 15 years old. Initially, he wanted to study medicine, but after two years of pre-medical school, he enrolled and successfully completed the culinary program at Chicago’s Kendall College in Evanston, Illinois.

Rene’s star-studded resume includes stints at Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago and Las Vegas, Patina in Los Angeles and New York City’s The Sign of the Dove. Michelena was named one of Food & Wine Magazine’s “Top 10 New Chefs”.

Michelena has reunited with long time friend, Owner and Chef of Dolce De Palma, Anthony De Palma, to bring back the concept of food as a way to unite people together in a very social, communal kind of way. They have captured the essence of Mediter-Asian cuisine in their intimate-loungy atmosphere.
